Gratitude – Day 60 (Pain)

Pain is a wonderful feedback mechanism. It does not mince words and well, it gets right to the point. I like that in a relationship. My relationship with pain these days is letting me know that my exercise regime is working. My body is telling me that I was far to sedentary and now it is dishing out some penance.

It is amazing how some very simple exercises can ferret out muscle groups that have been sitting around leaning on their shovel. I imagine I have about two weeks to really experience my “gratitude” to pain before  the conditioning lets the muscles know that they need to man up and get with the program. If things get too rough, I have my old friend Advil.

It is time that I got into gear with an exercise program. No excuse not to. Just focus, commitment, and discipline. Seems simple enough. I look forward to working through this and strengthening core muscle groups. I plan on doing some canoeing, backpacking, and cycling this year. Need to make sure I can rise to the challenge if and when needed. Kathy has been an inspiration. She has been going to cross fit for quite some time and has  established great strides with her own personal fitness goals.

Here’s to having pain come for a visit, and here’s to me letting him know it is only a visit. Now where are those running shoes again…

A man’s health can be judged by which he takes two at a time – pills or stairs.  ~ Joan Welsh
